Chapter 16 – Mansion

Black Tiger’s Viewpoint

Once home I sent a text to Steph asking what she was up to for the evening. I'd barely seen her for almost two days now, and before we became supers at the very least we saw each other every day in the early morning during our workouts.

I wondered if she were mad after jumping me when I'd shown up to check on her after her party and dance club excursion last Friday night.

I thought it had been awesome; although I'd kind of always imagined that we'd go out to a nice dinner, perhaps see a movie, concert or other show, and then it'd happen. I sure as hell never expected it to happen by showing up at her place out of concern and being leaped on - literally.

On the other hand, now that I thought about it, her emotional state had been all over the place the last week. The change into supers - specifically her becoming a telepath - seemed to really be affecting her.

She's definitely tired more often - not physically, but she seems wore down mentally more often. I know her telepathy works 24/7, hell, I've even played with it by waking her up by getting really close to her and thinking things like giant cat eyes to creep her out. Maybe telepathy wears a person down.

Who else do I know who is a telepath? Arissa, but that bitch is in prison - I doubt I could trust her anyway; she did take over Lance's mind. Psycom, but I've not even come across him as a hero. I know, I'll call Hellshock - maybe he knows another one.

I took out stuff to prepare for dinner. Lance and I usually alternated in the past, but he had a habit of crushing and bending things now, especially if he got distracted. He was getting better about being cautious, however.

I, on the other hand had gotten much faster, while also gaining a lot of strength. The thought made me toss a bunch of silverware in the air and grab each of them individually before they landed. I didn't even bother using any electric gizmos any more - it was just faster to chop everything by hand.

I grabbed my cordless earpiece and sync'd it with my H.E.R.O. phone, and then called Hellshock while I continued working.

He answered, "Hellshock here."

"Hey, Hellshock, this is Black Tiger. You busy at the moment?"

"Not really, I'm waiting for some repairs on one of my cycles."

"You crash it?"

"No, got into a fight with a bad guy, he threw a bench and it hit the bike. It happens. You need some help?"

I chuckled, "With dinner? No, I've got a question about telepaths. First, if they constantly use their power do they get fatigued, and second if you know any telepaths who wouldn't mind being contacted."

"Hell, I'll be over in a few minutes if you're making dinner."

"Come on over, there's room. You on the west side right now?"

"Yeah, well, not sure that I want to impose.
